Money, we all have it, we all need it. Currency comes in many different forms all over the world, some very unique to their own culture. Paper money has been highly popularized in today's society, and as such, has been developed with its own design. Currently, the Japanese Yen is beautifully designed by lacking the modern spirit that Japan emanates.
My goal was to come up with a design concept that stayed true to Japan's values and history of design, but also modernize the bill in a way that fits in with its contemporaries.
I wanted to utilize the portraits of famous Japanese who were not just famous in their time, but who truly influenced the culture of the Japanese people. Inspiration drawn from the time periods of these individuals led to the discovery of the design in architecture and how it has changed through the years. Both were represented on the bills.
Inspiration was drawn from real pieces of authentic, beautifully design Japanese artwork.
